studying Japanese

I'm making some progress studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test I plan to take in December. The level I plan to take is a stretch of my current abilities with the language. I registered for last year's test but didn't study enough to be anywhere near prepared to take it.

I've got a lot of study materials, from a textbook to kanji workbooks to JLPT practice exams to Japanese children's story books to kanji flashcards. I've found that re-watching Azumanga Daioh and jotting down important words and phrases is a less efficient but really fun way to study, too. Now that I've finished re-watching all the episodes, it's time to move on to more serious forms of study.

Someone in the DC community needs help finding books: http://community.livejournal.com/washingtondc/1675271.html?nc=7

I thought you might be able to help them.

coolness. good luck! are you taking level 3? i need to study more so that i can take that one. it's been so long since the level 4 test, that i've forgotten almost all of my kanji *panic*. you sound very organized; i'm sure you'll do very well! ^___^

Yeah, I'm taking level 3. There's a lot of stuff it covers that I have yet to learn; when I peek at the practice tests I've got, I'm like ぜんぜん わからないいいいいいいい!!!

hehe. i feel overwhelmed like that with particles. i have a particle dictionary and a particle workbook and it just kicks my butt. i'm good with common lower-level uses of particles, but more sophisticated uses leave me confused; especially double particles - sometimes i think i just need to listen to people speak a lot and get an ear for it rather than trying to think about it.

are your practice exams very long? if they're short, is there any way i could convince you to photocopy a few for me. i want to take level three as well, but i keep putting it off. i'll happily reimburse the cost to you!

The practice exams are each over 100 pages, not counting the answer keys, so they'd be a big effort to copy.

I looked at word lists and I'm still at 30 to 50% out of Level 4. Level 3 sounds pretty hardcore to me.
