月今宵

October moon, waxing gibbousLooking at the moon
thoughts of a thousand things
fill me with sadness—
but autumn's dejection
does not come to me alone.

[poem by Ōe no Chisato; translation by Donald Keene]

月見れば
千々に物こそ
悲しけれ
わが身一つの
秋にはあらねど

大江千里

(This poem is part of the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu.)
