None of the DARPA Grand Challenge entries completed last year's challenge. Do you think any of this year's competitors will be able to finish the course?

so far, it looks close - 11 teams finished in the qualifiers. I'm hoping one of the CMU teams wins :)

Yes. I think that they could've gained enough experience last time through to design something that can finish the race. It's a complicated problem, but not so bad as being unachievable.

It got some front page press in the Johnstown paper the other day....mostly about CMU's entry (unfortunately, a monstrous modified Hummer). It sounded like several of the top teams are back for a second year and have benefitted considerably from lessons learned last year. Red Whittaker of CMU is the brother of a former co-worker and he's quite the colorful character as well as the desingner/builder of the robots that were used inside TMI for cleanup work......he's been at this for quite a few years and is certainly among the best around. It will be intersting to see what happens this time.
