Seen on the back of a can of peanuts in a store yesterday: “MAY CONTAIN NUT TRACES.”

Peanuts aren't nuts; they're actually legumes. Think of peas in a woody pod. Peanut allergies are (from what I understand) quite separate from other nut allergies, although they can be just as serious.

Touché! Ironically, I just learned that peanuts aren't nuts a couple days ago, but I failed to apply that newfound knowledge.

Yeah, I just learned that recently too. Weird! For my next trick I shall demystify the pineapple.

I bought an el cheapo marzipane cake (the shrink wrapped kind to be stored at room temperature for 10 years or so) once (it tasted horrible). The label said "may contain traces of almonds".

The ingredients themselves did not list almonds, though.
