bonjour from Ottawa

I've arrived for my third year at the Ottawa Linux Symposium, and by now this city is starting to feel familiar. The flights went smoothly, more or less; I can't complain about sitting on the tarmac for an hour after the debacle of two years ago (or, the Nightmare in Newark).

My suite is sweet. (The hotel randomly upgraded me.) It has a kitchen, living area with sofa, washer/dryer, balcony, office area with a multifunction fax machine, ethernet and wireless internet access, a coat closet, plushy robes… not that I have any use for most of that stuff. Well, I could make myself a cup of tea.

I look forward to hearing about OLS -- I'm reading peoples' blogs in exile, as it were. Are there any talks in particular that you're wanting to attend?

The event I'm most excited about is the Write a real, working Linux driver tutorial, which will be new territory for me. The Debian Women BOFS should be enlightening. I intend to go to the Beagle: Free and Open Desktop Search talk if for no reason other than that the talk I attended two years ago on its forerunner, Dashboard, was infectiously exciting. And of course there are a bunch of more technical ones that sound good: usbmon, Using genetic algorithms to automatically tune the kernel, SNAP Computing and the X Window System, Recent Advances and Current Challenges in Linux/ACPI, among others.
