Our New Year's celebrations were calm. For the turning of the year, we visited Mara and pylocatabasis and watched The Two Towers, interrupted briefly to tune into coverage of the Ball dropping and TV personalities being overly peppy.

Today is Rob's first day off work in about a week, so he's been at work a lot and I've been at home a lot, mostly being lazy. I bought some new plants: an asparagus fern for the living room, a philodendron and a tricolor wandering jew for the office. Rob bought a truck racing game for the PS2. I took down the Christmas tree. We watched more episodes of Cowboy Bebop on DVD. I watched Roman Holiday. We went out for sushi. I found a nice program for printing envelopes under Linux. I spent quite a bit of time tinkering with my play computer, which was having some problems. Some changes to /etc/fstab and /etc/rc.conf helped, but the apparent network problems were hairier to work out, especially with the DSL connectivity being shaky.

I took my car to Rob's shop when things were slow to have the brakes evaluated, and sure enough the front discs were heavily pitted. I got them and the front brake pads replaced.

I'm trying a muscle relaxant called Carisoprodol that my doctor prescribed for the muscle spasms (evident in the x-rays) in my neck and shoulders. I've had these spasms for about a year, not knowing what they were and just hoping they'd go away on their own.

I read more—but not as much as I'd hoped—of Quicksilver and got confused around the area of the play with Lord Brimstone and the anti-Dutch sentiments. Apparently the next book in the series comes out on April 13, 2004, so I'd better hurry things up.

There's PLENTY in that book that's confusing. I just work through it and hope it falls together. =)
