I watched Amélie today. I really enjoyed it. It's whimsical and lovely and uplifting in a way that I can't imagine any American movie being. Its gentleness reminds me of Haibane Renmei. Those who don't like Amélie—and I have read a few negative reviews—must be pitifully cynical. Oh, I can accept that not everyone is delighted by it, but I can't read reviews like this without feeling sad that there are people out there without any childlike sense of wonder, any empathy toward their fellow man.

Amelie is the greatest movie ever. Well, the best one I've seen since Trainspotting, and one I watch more frequently.
