renfest 2005

I went to the last day of this year's Maryland Renaissance Festival yesterday. The weather was great and traffic was heavy. I was really glad I wore my boots instead of something more girly, because there was plenty of authentic medieval-style muck through which to tread. We didn't stop more than a minute to watch a joust, of which I've seen enough to be bored by them. We did see the Squire of the Wire. Didn't manage to catch the blacksmith at work, but did manage to see several Storm Troopers and a TIE Fighter pilot. I got some simmering potpourri and a beaded hair ornament, and I was sorely tempted by a taste of butterbean honey. We hung around at the Dragon Inn around closing time, where elwing2000 lit her nifty lantern while nearby fratboy types screamed, “Hail, Bacchus!” and other, less intelligible things, and a guy with a green beard kept asking about my involvement with Darkon, which I'd never heard of, so I naturally had no idea what he was talking about. Not exactly my crowd, there.

Damn... I haven't been to Renfest in 4 years, I think. I miss it quite a bit -- some of my favorite performers there have always been Nimblewick & Kate, doing Firespiel. Oh, to have that kind of skill with a bull-whip.

I didn't realize there was a particular day for this. Is it always the last day?

So - that's what they were yelling... I couldn't understand half of what was being said. I was just happy to have a seat :) The White Hart Tavern is more my speed of other characters, but you can't pass up listening to the Rogues :)

you could actually hear them? I only remember occasional toasts to Bacchus and loud stomping, and the random shout of a person climbing through the rafters...

It was pretty random running into you. There were lots of things I could have asked about, but I didn't want to bore your friends.

Indeed. Ask away.
